A Call to Action
Caring for aging family members is a bit like disaster relief. People often feel compelled to rise to the occasion. Much like local citizens rounding up their boats and rescuing those trapped in a building or sunken ship (a la Dunkirk), friends and family feel obligated to save those in need of service. Though we know the sacrifice of time and energy involved when we intervene on their behalf, the guilt of not making the sacrifice is far too enormous for many to endure. The missed opportunity to ease the suffering of those around us often surpasses temporary discomfort and inconvenience.
